Richard Sheath

As well as wide experience in board and committee effectiveness built up over the past fourteen years, Richard has special expertise in risk governance and the work of audit and risk committees.

Richard has considerable experience in board and committee reviews, clients including Antofagasta, Fresnillo, Rolls-Royce, National Grid, QBE Europe, The Bank of New York Mellon, NFU Mutual, Pool Re, Prudential, Hays, QinetiQ, Smith & Nephew, Thames Water and the Unilever Pension Fund Trustee Board.

Work on audit and risk has included reviews for Antofagasta, Fresnillo, Reuters, Simplyhealth and Tate & Lyle.

Richard leads the development of our expert governance self-assessment service Thinking Board®.

He was until recently audit committee chairman of SUEK, Russia’s largest coal producer, was previously audit committee chairman of Eurochem, a major global fertiliser producer and also risk committee chairman of MDM Bank.

Richard has written numerous publications on governance issues, most recently on how boards tackle uncertainty and human behaviour.  He is responsible for our monthly eBulletin “The Effective Board” and has also published guidance on how boards can assess control culture and behaviour and on good governance reporting.

He was formerly a Partner in the risk management practice at PwC.
