Good non-executives know the value of time spent getting out of the boardroom. It’s often where they really get to understand the organisational culture and build that added confidence in management.
There is now a firm expectation that the Board not only understands the culture prevalent in the organisation, but also has a view on how it is being shaped for the future. It’s becoming an increasingly important part of the role of the non-executive directors (NEDs)

But a busy NED can have limited time on top of the many days they already devote to their role – and also they have to be careful not to overstep the line, potentially distracting management. So getting the approach right is important. Here are a few tips to consider along with a few traps to avoid.
